In addition to assisting buyers and sellers in purchasing or renovating a “green” home, Tant will be teaching the GCREP-GL course to real-estate agents across the Florida panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Green Real Estate Education Still the Leader …

United States of America (Press Release) September 2, 2008 — “We will have educated close to 4000 by years end and we are pleased our growth is at a manageable pace. We needed the summer to regroup. We hear everyday from Appraiser and Mortgage Professionals.” says Ms. Kerry Mitchell, President of Green Real Estate Education. Asked why the company is growing so quickly, Mitchell says,” we feel keeping the course course under $100 per student is crucial. This includes the manual, A LOGO TO USE and certification.”

Even our Home Inspection Division is growing. Bert Henderson, Director of Education for the Home Inspection Division says, ” We hope to train over 1000 home inspectors by the end of 2009. We are already palnning our course for the construction and facilities people. Everyone is hungry for education. I have been an educator for years and students see my push for energy efficiency was important then and is important now.”

The company’s “Green Leadership” certification is the company’s first level in the Real Estate Environmental and Energy Education Certification Series. The content will become more techincal next year as their second level will be written next year. Their course series will be created over the next 5 years. Mitchell states cost to students is important. ” No one in the industry can afford to pay over $100 for anything in these times. They are having a difficult time paying their membership renewal dues, and our courses are very stimulating and exciting and offers a topic very much on everyone’s mind.”

Congrats to the entire Prudential Holley Properties office. One hundred percent (100%) of the agents have completed the first level Green Certified Real Estate Professional GCREP-G.L. Prudential Holley Properties is the only brokerage in the Florida panhandle to receive this certification.

Buyers Crave Green More Than Extra Space

Buyers of custom homes are increasingly interested in money-saving features like extra insulation and energy-efficient furnaces, rather than game rooms and space for in-laws, according to a Home Design Trend Survey by the American Institute of Architects.

Sixty-eight percent of the survey’s respondents said customers were requesting extra insulation in the attic compared with 56 percent a year ago.

Two-thirds of respondents said green products such as tankless water heaters, double or triple-glazed windows, and sustainable flooring products such as bamboo or cork were gaining in popularity.

Only 8 percent of the survey’s respondents said game rooms were increasingly popular among their customers, down from 23 percent last year. Home offices also declined in popularity even though they remain the most requested specialty room. Last year, 61 percent of custom home buyers wanted them; this year only 41 percent made the request.

The Green Building Finance Consortium (GBFC) is a group of leading corporations, real estate companies, and trade groups who have joined together to address the need for independent research and analysis of investment in Green or energy efficient buildings.

The mission of GBFC is to enable the private real estate sector—corporations, investors, lenders, and developers—to appropriately recognize the value and risk of investment in Green Buildings. Greening the 2008 Democratic National Convention

Waste Diversion

The goal for resource recovery systems at the Pepsi Center and the Colorado Convention Center is a minimum 85 percent diversion from the landfill. We will accomplish this through a comprehensive recycling, composting and waste minimization program with the assistance of hundreds of our DNCC Green Team volunteers. Organic materials collected through our system will be composted, degrade within weeks and be returned to the soil.

We have been working closely with the Pepsi Center and the Convention Center staff to ensure sourcing of sustainable and recyclable service ware. Our focus is to not only lower our waste impact for the Convention, but to implement a long-term legacy of recycling and sourcing recyclable materials at these venues.

Sustainable Materials & Production

Choosing sustainable materials is at the heart of our greening plan. Sustainable sourcing, reuse and reduction of all materials are considerations for every facet of Convention planning and production. All contractors and subcontractors are chosen in part because of their demonstrated commitment to sustainable planning principles, and many have agreed to participate in our carbon tracking program. Sustainably-harvested wood products and rented or reused materials will be used everywhere possible. Materials used will be measured, tracked and wherever possible, reused or donated to community organizations and schools at the conclusion of the Convention.

The DNCC production team is currently designing the look and layout of the Convention hall, including the stage that will showcase our nominee. The DNCC is committed to implementing environmentally aware procedures throughout. These include using innovative technologies to replace disposable set pieces, low energy alternatives in lighting, reusable and or recyclable staging materials such as rental decking, and environmentally sustainable construction materials, such as recycled and/or recyclable carpeting, non-toxic adhesives and low VOC paints.

Going green on a massive scale, in a short period of time – is POSSIBLE!. Keep moving forward!!

SBIC’s Beyond Green Message

In addition to promoting sustainability/green design and construction, SBIC is eager to share our overarching philosophy that sustainability, while critical, cannot stand alone. We are all aware of the effects, for example, of natural disasters and the importance of disaster resistance in the wake of the Katrina and Rita hurricanes and the increased need for accessibility and security in our buildings.

A more inclusive, integrated perspective, which we call Beyond Green^TM, is required. Understanding and applying a whole building approach from design to turnover makes good sense.

The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council was founded in 1980 as the Passive Solar Industries Council (PSIC). We served as a clearinghouse on passive solar design for the major building trade groups, including those representing architects, home builders, the glass industry, and building owners.

In the 1990s, PSIC’s scope expanded to include the other major aspects of sustainable design and construction including optimizing site potential, minimizing energy use, using renewable energy sources, conserving and protecting water, using environmentally preferable products, enhancing indoor environmental quality, and optimizing operations and maintenance practices.
